Poor security at Delhi Metro exposed

NEW DELHI – Rajat Sharma’s India TV tonight showed video footage exposing shocking loopholes in the security of Delhi Metro, the symbol of national pride.

In the finest tradition of public-spirited journalism, the video was provided by four young Alert Viewers in India TV’s primetime show, Breaking News.

In the video, the four Alert Viewers were seen effortlessly breeching the security at Pragati Maidan, Rajeev Chowk, Barakhamba Road, Kashmiri Gate, Chandni Chowk, Delhi University and Shahadra metro stations between August 10 and 13. The breeches included carrying a licensed revolver inside metro stations and leaving behind suspicious tiffin boxes and bags on metro stations. The ease with which these could be implemented without any resistance from the security apparatus raises alarm as to how easily human bombs can be easily smuggled into Delhi Metro, causing incalculable harm to this National Asset.

The video caused ripples across the country and thousands of viewers contacted India TV to express their concern.

In a statement, India TV urged far more stringent security checks in the Delhi Metro and hoped that the video aired in public interest will have a salutary effect.

The identities of the four Alert Viewers has been kept confidential.

Copies of the video footage and requests for their versions have been placed before Delhi Police, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Central Industrial Security Force.
