Registrations for 2009 Chennai Pravasi Bharatiya Divas start

NEW DELHI – Ministry of Overseas Affairs launched the website (www.pbdindia.org) for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas where delegates can register for the event. The convention is being organized at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai from January 7 to January 9, 2009.

Highlighting the various benefits from the convention, Minister Vayalar Ravi expects 1,500 to 2,000 delegates to take part in the Chennai meet. He said, “it is the government’s effort to take the convention to different places in the country.”

Indian citizens will pay 10,000 rupees and non-citizens $200 in registration fees for the convention.

The theme of the 7th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is Engaging the Diaspora: The Way Forward. Deliberations will include the Diaspora’s role in India’s emergence as a global power, preservation of their language & Culture and the role of Diaspora Youth in the 21st Century India. Regional Working Sessions on Diaspora in the Gulf, Asia-Pacific, Africa, USA, Europe, Caribbean and Canada are also scheduled. Building-the-Bridges Sessions have been planned on ‘Trade & Investment’, ‘Diaspora Philanthropy’, ‘Education & Diaspora Knowledge Network’, Media and Entertainment’ and ‘Tourism’ and separate Sessions with State governments are also planned.

A Trade and Industry Exhibition with participation from the corporate sector, financial institutions, state governments, NGOs and a market place of Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre (OIFC) are also being organized.
